Skiing in Iran!

If you are married to a Cunat, you are in for skiing wherever they can find a ski piste in the world and so after hour first night in Teheran and having explored the city, Miguel had found out that there was a ski resort in Dazin not far from Teheran!!!

I still remember him showing me the map which was folded out on our bed pointing out the mountains and being super excited about the idea. And why not! I was in for an adventure but then I quickly realised I was in Iran and not sure if I actually were able to???? In my chador?? How would that work?

We were to find out the next day and run into a group of school kids from Teheran. All dressed up in ski gear. Boys and girls. No distancing at all. Going up in the lift together. We were both pleasantly surprised and asked them how it worked. Turned out not very different from Europe. I only had to make sure I would cover my hair with my head scarf and wear a long jacket. Which was not a problem, I took Miguel’s jacket which was bigger than mine and that would cover any curves 😉 And then off we went. Hired our boots and ski’s and took the lift up.

It was a very special moment when coming down the pistes. I remember that for a while I felt as if I was back myself. Enjoying the freedom and being able to be seated together in the lift. And even recall sneaking in a kiss when nobody was to be seen 🙂

At the end of the day, the kids invited us on their bus back to Teheran. We couldn’t believe it. They listened to Western music and there were a few couples sitting next to each other. The bus driver turning a blind eye. When we were almost in town, the atmosphere suddenly changed. Girls swapped seats, head phones in their bags, music off….in a few moments their parents would pick them up. We said goodbye and thanked them for the ride and the amazing experience.
