Bridge over the River Kwai…

We just came back from a weekend with friends in Katchanaburi. An interesting and fun trip where we got to know each other a little bit better. Mira and I have been laughing non stop and I still get the giggles when I think of these moments…:)

IMG_3944IMG_3938IMG_3909IMG_3970IMG_3911IMG_3900IMG_3904IMG_3997We visited the famous bridge over the River Kwai, which is not far from the  Myanmar border. During WW II, Japan constructed the meter-gauge railway line from Thailand to  Burma. It runs for about 250 miles and is known as the Death Railway. During the second world war many prisoners of war from different South East Asian countries were forced to work on this railway track under unbearable conditions. Many people died. Reason why it is sadly know for it’s name..

We took the kids on the train ride and tried to explain to them the history behind it. Of course they were too small to fully comprehend but we all enjoyed the ride and the kids loved looking out of the windows seeing the beautiful scenery and waving goodbye to the local kids!
