Miguel is in Europe and I felt like taking the boys out for a brunch at Mount Lavinia this morning. So we took the train from Slave Island about 5 minutes from our home and we spent the rest of the day at the beach and the pool of Mount Lavinia Hotel.
The train ride is very special as it takes you along the coast. The track is so close to the ocean that at times you can feel the sea spray in your face. The windows and doors are all open and people are standing in the doors, looking out of the windows or sitting on the doorsteps. Pretty scary at times but then again so typical of how people travel here by train.
The boys always feel a bit uncomfortable as they are looked at but I really want to give them the experience of how people commute every day and under what circumstances. We have done it a dozen times already and I enjoy it every single time.
When you get to the beach, you just can’t believe that this is still part of Colombo. Only a 20 minutes train ride away. Pure bliss!
