Back together again! After our ski trip to Germany, Miguel and Guido went off to Madrid to see his family for a few days. Yesterday they came back and we all met in Amsterdam. It was so wonderful to see Miguel and Guido again. We had missed them so much and we all hugged and kissed!
The three of us had woken up early and outside everything was covered with frost. A beautiful view over the grasslands and forest… We took the train to Amsterdam were we had to wait a while at the train station for Miguel and Guido. We decided to have a hot chocolate in the Art Deco cafe on platform 1. It is one of my favourite places. So classic and the boys loved it as there is this cockatoo that keeps you company.
Once Miguel arrived, we took the tram to the Anne Frankenhuis. We thought it would be a good experience for them to see the house where Anne Frank was hiding during WW2. Sam just had covered this subject in school and so when he saw the tiny place, the bookshelves and the staircase behind he was speechless. Both Ruben and Sam listened to stories and testimonies. I tried to explain to Guido who Anne Frank was and at the end he said” “Mama, we need peace in the world” and lifted his two fingers on both hands..
After the visit and some lunch, we went off to Theater Carre to see the World Christmas Circus. It was freezing outside and the boys kept on asking me if I went on my bike in this cold??? Ha ha!…Yes, I answered proudly. Oh my tropical birds if they only would know…:)!!
I had booked the tickets in advance and I was very excited for the boys and Miguel to see it. Theater Carre is a beautiful historical building not far from the Amstel and The Magere Brug. I remember we saw the musical “Cats” with my parents when I was only a child. It had made a big impression on me. The kids loved the performance and the ambience was great. So christmassy…with the lightning, the christmas trees and carols.
After the perfomance, the boys were starving (as usual) and so we stepped into a little cafe next door where we managed to get a tiny little table in the back. We ordered “bitterballen” which the boys love and a few other plates. Tummies full and warmed up, we needed to head back. It was late, all dark outside but I felt so happy having spent a beautiful meaningful day with my boys in Amsterdam. X
