Meeting the Samburu tribe…

IMG_1534

On our way back to Tigoni today, just on the outskirts of the National Reserve we stopped and met a few people of the Samburu Tribe. A very interesting encounter as we were explained the customs and their way of life. The Samburu are semi nomadic who herd mainly cattle but also keep sheep, goats and camels. The men were colourful ( mainly red) sarongs with different designs and the woman carry beautiful big necklaces around their neck which come in multiple coloured beets.

Once the boys felt a bit more comfortable they engaged with the elder men. Ruben and Ned were found on their knees, trying to lit a fire with a wooden stick and a stone. Guido had found a catapult and was keen to shoot a few pebbles around. The “chief” of the Samburu showed us their tiny little huts made of clay, wooden sticks and a few cloths. The “open air” school had a group of 20 little kids sitting on the floor under an acacia tree and the woman were busy making jewellery. Of course they were keen to sell us some of their pieces and so we did. A very special memory of an amazing trip!
