Stuck in Doha!

So here we are! Stuck in Doha! We missed our flight to Holland as we left Colombo with a hour delay. A computer system failure made the plane be grounded at Colombo airport. In the meantime Guido didn’t feel fell and he felt hot. What a beginning of our summer holiday! I managed to call Miguel and my mum before take off so they were informed that we most likely would end up in Doha instead of Amsterdam..

The flight to Doha was horrendous as Guido had high fever and I very nervous. You immediately think of dengue! So when we finally got to Doha, a staff of Qatar Airways awaited us and we went straight to a medical clinic at the airport. Guido was very weak so I felt somewhat relieved that a doctor could examine him but anxious what the diagnostic would be. After Guido was examined, we only got to hear that he probably had a flu so with medicine that the doctor prescribed for him we were taken to a hotel in Doha.

Sam and Ruben saw it as a little adventure but I was all nerves not knowing when we would embark on our flight to Amsterdam and if I could fly with Guido in the state he was. But once in the hotel he suddenly felt much better. The fever went down and he even felt like having some food! So the medicine had a good effect on him.

We made a little walk around the area. The kids played James Bond and we had a look at the architecture of the city.  But soon we realised that we wouldn’t manage to spend more time outside as it was burning hot! And that at 6pm in the afternoon! So we went back to the hotel for a shower and dinner which was lovely as the kids managed to enjoy all sorts of local arabic dishes. Once we were back in the hotel room Guido begin to feel sick again and I spent the whole night at his side making sure his temperature went down so we would be able to take our flight to Amsterdam.

In the morning, we took him in a wheelchair to the airport and with the medicine we managed to arrive in Holland. What a stress and poor little Guido so weak!! What an adventure! I felt so happy when I saw my mum at the airport!!!! Suddenly, all my worries went away knowing that being with her and in Holland everything would be alright…X
