Ruben turned 14 today and no better way than to spend it at the beach with his friends going for some surf! We got him a very cool surf board which our friend Erik happened to stumble upon in a surf shop in Hikkaduwa, a little town not far from Galle, on the morning of Ruben’s birthday!
Ruben over the moon! And off he went with his friends and his new board so eager to catch the first waves. Some of his girls from school were also there and followed the boys very briefly. I managed to get a snap shot off them just before they went in. Two and half hours of surf later, they all came out hungry and Ruben invited them for a lunch at The Shack Beach cafe. A funky place with delicious food where we often hang out.
After lunch, Ruben organised a few Tuk Tuk’s to take his friends home for a swim, game of football and cake at home. I had made his favourite cheesecake and the happy bunch all sang for him. Ruben a bit shy as usual but looking so proud and happy to have his friends at home 🙂
At the end of the day, when he brought his board into his bedroom, he looked at me and said: ” Mam, I still can’t believe that board is mine and it is there in my room”.
