This morning, we took the car and drove to Cervinia which is an Alpine ski resort in the Valle d’Aosta in northwest Italy. Guille really wanted us to go up with him to the glacier and see the Matterhorn from nearby and have lunch in Zermatt. A ski expedition crossing the border with Italy to Switzerland!
See the video of Guido below! X
It was beautiful weather but once we were up at about 3000 meters high the winds were very strong and it was freezing cold! Sam and Guido were in tears and Ruben complained about frozen fingertips!! Lucky enough, there was a little restaurant nearby the ski lift and so we sat there for a good 30 minutes to warm up. We decided to continue and give it a go. And once we skied a bit downwards the wind became less strong and the boys were ok again. Sam was ahead of everybody else while I kept a close eye on Guido. Guille was skiing right in front of him most of the time and he did really well. Most slopes are red and Guido didn’t complain at all. He loved it!
After a good 4 hours of ski, we arrived in Zermatt. The village were we thought to have lunch but Miguel preferred to go up again as we needed to be back in time before the lifts would close. So another lift up! The Matterhorn express. I felt a little dizzy in my head. The altitude and I was hungry!!! It became worse when we went up as we reached an altitude of 4000 meters high!!! Incredible views of the Matterhorn and we truly felt we were in Winter Wonderland. The kids were exhausted and we all needed to eat. A restaurant right on the top served the most expensive “pasta bolognese” (24 Euros per plate!) But what to do!????? We needed energy!
Once our tummies were full, we headed downwards. Three thousand meters going down the slopes in one hour and non stop! An amazing experience and Guido on his little skies managed it with a big smile on his face! So proud of him! And my other two!! No injuries! Hooray! We did it!!!!
