Nothing has been more inspiring and life changing than our visit to the Green School in Bali today. What a school! but what is even more impressive is the “Green Movement” that is driving this school and so many other related projects like Ibuku, Greenvillage and Bambuindah. For a few days we were immersed in a “green bath” and we met so many interesting people!
We arrived yesterday and we had to make a real effort to wake up early this morning as we needed to be at the Green School in time for our visit. I had organised this months in advance as I really felt that the kids should have a chance to experience the school and pick up on the wonders what the people here in Ubud do for their community and the planet as a whole. We were lucky to have Chris as our guide, who had been the director of the Green School for 3 years. An amazing guy which had the boys fascinated all the way through our walk on the campus. For Miguel and I, it felt as if we were listening to a “Ted talk”. A “change maker’ for sure and what has kept us thinking until now…
The kids loved the school. No surprise! For Ruben just the idea not to have to study with walls around him was what struck him most. Guido loved the fact that they you were outside all day and could wander off. Sam said he was fascinated by all the little businesses they could set up themselves and “be hands on”. Like how they made their own bridge, cook their own meals and grow their own vegetables. And of course they all liked the football pitch and the 4 goals which indeed are also made out of bamboo! 🙂
We continued later to the bamboo factory and ended up for lunch at Green Village. More pictures and story to follow in another post!
