Lapa!

Lapa is such an iconic neighbourhood of Rio. We walked all the way from our house to the famous Escadaria Selarón. It is a set of world-famous steps in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. They are the work of Chilean-born artist Jorge Selarón who claimed it as “my tribute to the Brazilian people”. I had always wanted to go and see the mix of colourful tiles. Anything to do with art, architecture inspires me so it was so wonderful to finally see it  and wander around. Watching the people passing by and sitting here with the 5 of us. Our family in Rio!. Who would have thought that!!!?

Lapa is very bohemian just like Santa Teresa. Slightly touristy but still very enjoyable to walk through. The many graffiti on the streets are worth having a look at and to admire. They are so many! You can just feel the creativity and the groove in the streets. The sellers, the homeless, the many bars.. A mix of local and tourists..

On our way home, we were on the look out for a guitar. Miguel had left it in Madrid at the last moment and I couldn’t believe my ears when I finally realised at the airport in Rio!!! So we were on a mission…! We walked so many streets, asked around and just when we were about to give up we passed by a music shop. We bought the cheapest we could find as it would be just for traveling…but something tells me it will become something rather special…X
