In the wild!

We arrived in Uruguay and we are so overwhelmed by the beauty of this country! Especially the place where we are staying! I found it on Airbnb. We are the first guests of Tiana and Leon. A couple of Buenos Aires who have made this place their home. Since a year or two they are in the process of building their own house out of adobe, recycled materials and growing their own fruits and vegetables. They are trying to live as much as sustainable as possible and that is one of the reasons why their little cabin appealed to me. A great way for the kids to experience a different approach to living…

We have set up the tent for the boys just outside of the cabin. There is nobody else around. Only a few wild horses and cows. It is so peaceful. What a contrast with Rio!! No  traffic noise, no people, nothing! Just nature and the sounds of the birds and the waves of the ocean in the far distance.

So pleased we made it here! When we arrived at the airport yesterday we first had to get ourselves a car which was not an easy task. Christmas is around the corner and a lot of people from Argentina are coming over for the holidays. Lucky we managed to get a 5 seater which was great with the boys being so big now! Our backpacks went into the back of the car and we headed towards the coast where we planned a lunch at Punta del Este. Montevideo we would visit upon our return.

Punta del Este reminded me of modern Spain. High rise and not the kind of place I had envisioned to stay a long time. So we had a nice little lunch at the beach and headed down south to Jose Ignacio. We needed some cash as well which turned out to be a nightmare! All ATM’s machine’s refused our cards. Lucky that they did accept our credit cards in the shops and restaurants but we waisted a good two hours on this 😦  The boys got a bit nervous seeing us so stressful but we explained that this is part of traveling. You need to be prepared for anything!

So tonight we are preparing for a barbecue. We bought some delicious meat and vegetables. All fresh from the markets which are great by the way!

I so enjoy making camp fires. With the guitar and a bottle of wine it can’t get any better! 🙂 The boys are also getting better at it and probably by the end of this trip we can leave it to them.

Tomorrow, we are going to explore the little village of Jose Ignacio and spent some time at the beach if the weather allows because it is a little cold for the time of the year. Looking forward to a good night of sleep tonight. It’s been a long time since I slept under a duvet! XX
