Colonia del Sacramento

Today is boxing day. For me it will always be the day of the Tsunami. At 9.20am. Also this morning, I lit a little candle that I found in the kitchen cupboard and remembered those terrifying moments and honored in thoughts who helped out and mourned again thinking of those who left their lives….far away…on an island which we love so much…Sri Lanka…

Guido was already awake. He was busy colouring. When Miguel and the boys woke up we had breakfast outside. Last night had been wonderful with the campfire, the guitar. We were all watching the stars. Sam saw a few falling and made a wish…

We made a plan to walk into town. We are about 10 minutes by car but walking would surely take us 45 minutes. It is hot these days but Miguel was determined we would walk and so we set off and had a delicious lunch in the old city of Colonia del Sacramento.

It reminded me a bit of the Galle Fort with its lighthouse and cobbled stone streets. The little town was a Portuguese settlement and you can tell from the architecture as it so reminds me of southern Spain! Just across the river is Buenos Aires. Tomorrow we will take the ferry and cross to the other side. Very excited about that! I always wanted to get to know Buenos Aires so a dream is coming true! X
