Goshh, thanks to Tango and this couple who made our day! So happy we did manage to get to San Telmo after an hour of a nightmare. My card got blocked by my third attempt of withdrawing money and Miguel didn’t got his card back! And there we were, with three kids and hardly any cash left!! We also found out that because of the New Year all banks would be closed from today onwards until the 2nd of January. So we were in a real pickle!
But thanks to a guy in the lobby of a hotel we managed to change our last dollars in pesos and we are now officially on a budget! So for any taxi ride in town we need to order an Uber and when dining out we have to make sure they will accept our credit cards. But heh, we are managing so far and had such a lovely afternoon in San Telmo! It reminded me indeed a bit of Paris and Madrid. The square was full of local people and a few tourists. There was even a little market selling books and of course there was Tango.
The boys were free to walk around and they found a delicious ice cream shop where they sold “Dulce de Leche”! It has become one of our favourite’s flavours since Uruguay. Miguel and I loved the vibe, we could have chatted forever and I couldn’t stop enjoying the dance, the music, the flow, how two people can be so tuned…Dance is always giving me wings and I could tell how they were just into the music, into a different world..disconnected from it all. So wonderful to see! It makes me grave to dance, to fly!
We arrived very late at home. It was already dark and the boys were tired so they went off to sleep and Miguel and I watched a movie together. A movie from Uruguay which we started in Colonia but we never finished. So different from Hollywood and liberating…
I begin to realise that the Spanish connection with the culture here in South America is strong. Thanks to Miguel being from Madrid and I being able to speak the language, I can appreciate the nuances and differences in the culture whether it is music, the food, the language itself or the people. A beautiful discovery and so enriching. I think the boys are starting to pick up on it as well.
In a while we are going to the colourful barrio of “La Boca”. It is home to the famous football stadium “Bocas Junior” and I am sure the boys will love it! X
