Horse riding with a local gaucho!

The horse riding this afternoon is probably one of my favourite experiences so far on the trip. Doing this all together as a family was really special. We joined a few others for a 2 hour long ride through the Patagonian countryside. The scenery was mind blowing with views over Lake Argentina and the mountains. We crossed small rivers, fields of flowers (it is summer so we found a few!), we saw lama’s shying away at only a short distance, a couple of cows and a shepherd with his sheep…

The boys were very excited. Especially Samuel. He is always in for some real adventure! Once we arrived at the farm, the gaucho helped us to choose our horses and saddled us up. Guido was very brave and in his salsa. He went ahead with a few others while Miguel, Ruby and I followed in a slow pace.

At times, we would stop to let the horses rest and eat for a bit. There was a strong cold wind so my romantic horse riding outfit went straight into the dustbin and I was happy that I brought my ugly blue rain jacket at the last minute. At least that protected me from the wind! The boys were also dressed up with layers of jumpers so they claimed to be warm enough although I wondered… Miguel was wearing his ski jacket!

It is quite funny when I look at the pictures now. We definitely look like a bunch of amateurs! But gosh it was beautiful up there! The connection with nature was really strong. It has planted a little seed. I must go horse riding more often when I am back in Holland! X
