And we are off! Roberto dropped us at the bus station and we said goodbye. It was sad to see him leave on his own to the airport but the bus timings didn’t allow us to wave him goodbye at the airport..
Boys didn’t complain at all that we were to embark on another bus drive. After the 29 hour long journey in Patagonia, the 5 hour one now seems pale in comparison. As always, the football and guitar kept us company while we waited for the bus to arrive. Once we were onboard all went smooth until we arrived at the border crossing with Chile….
We all had to disembark the bus and leave our luggage outside. It was clear that the Chilean douaniers were serious about their job when they started patrolling the luggage area while we were escorted to another area in the building. Signs of prohibited food and other products were on the walls of the building and when looking at it we realised we were in trouble….
Roberto had brought ham from Spain and it was clear from the pictures that we couldn’t bring it into the country. We had put it into the little red bag. Some dogs were getting closer to our luggage so I urged Miguel to speak to one of the security guys. Once we were in the cue, Miguel finally found a moment to speak to the guy. I watched how his face suddenly changed from a grim to a laugh. Not knowing what Miguel had said, I guessed it was all ok. Later Miguel told us this…” We had a laugh and boys so relieved to find out that they would still be able to enjoy their ham later..!! Yay!!
Once we returned to the bus, it was another two hours to Osorno. The landscape was beautiful and we could see the famous volcano in the distance. We wondered if their would be time tomorrow to climb it and go for a spin. Our next bus drive to Pichilemu would be at night so we had the whole day to ourselves. Boys were hungry so we ended up having sandwiches with Spanish ham at the hotel and thanked the security guy again..;)
