It is Eastern Holidays and the kids are two weeks off from school so we decided to go up to the hills, Miguel’s beloved tea country, and escape the heat for a few days. Ruben preferred to be in Colombo as it is Maya birthday tomorrow. So it will only be the four of us this time. I begin to realise that the few moments we spend together as a family becoming more and more precious now Ruben is a teenager and no doubt he will like to spend his time more and more with his friends..
It took us almost 9 hours to get to the Haldamulla Estate where Anthe and Giles’s cottage is. The road was windy and both Guido and Sam were getting sick so we had to make a few stops on the way. I had been disputing with Sam if it was a good idea to bring his skateboard but in retrospect I am glad he did!!
During one of our stops, he had taken out the board and skated it all the way down the hill onto the windy road. I couldn’t help myself than to smile although I knew it was not risk free… But here he was, enjoying himself so much and being totally in his element!
