Today we hiked all the way from Ella to Samodera train station. A beautiful hike of about 2 hours through forests and paddy fields and lush bushes of tea. As part of the Tea Country Trail, Miguel wanted us to try it out as an experience for families and it is perfectly doable! The view over the 9 arches bridge was stunning which we crossed again later by train on our way to Haldemula.
Once we arrived at Samodera train station, we had to wait for a while for the train to arrive. Miguel had gone with the driver to get some food and we would see him at the next stop. That worked out well and he jumped 20 minutes later on as we continued our way to Haldemula to arrive just in time for Zindzi’s birthday celebration.
Unfortunately, my shoes were killing me and so on our descent from the train station to their cottage I could not set one step more. When it started to rain, I didn’t see myself continue the steep walk down. Fortunately, a very nice family were so kind to let us wait at their tiny house situated on the most stunning hill looking over Haldemula estate. While Miguel and Sam continued to the cottage for Giles to pick us up, we tried to communicate with the eldest of 4 girls. She was pretty and told me that Guido was very handsome and was keen to find out how old Ruben was…;)
Once Giles and Miguel arrived with the car, we were “home” in 20 minutes, enjoying a delicious cake made by Zindzi and of course a cup of tea!
