Our Story

Hi there! My name is Irstel Jansen and I am married to Miguel Cunat. Together we live with our three boys, Ruben, Sam and Guido  in Sri Lanka since 2003. We are passionate about travel. That is how Miguel and I met in Florence in 1992. Ever since, we have travelled extensively around the world and lived in some really beautiful and interesting places such as Madrid, Sydney, Amsterdam, The Pyrenees, Bangkok, London and Colombo…

In Galle, our three boys are growing up on this beautiful tropical island in the Indian Ocean. They enjoy the great outdoors like surfing the waves, hiking in the tea country, spotting wildlife in the national parks and of course playing football with their friends. Apart from exploring Sri Lanka, we often travel abroad. We love to nurture their curiosity and expose them to different cultures.

Caring for mother nature and be mindful what impact our travels and life has on our planet are goals we try to set ourselves every day. We live within a small community of local people and where needed we help out. Whether it is through our project @byebyeplasticstraws, a music concert in Colombo or giving a hand to the Aymara people in Pisco, Chile.

I once read this quote and it always stayed with me;  “Actually, the best thing you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures”…Lewis Caroll, Alice in Wonderland.

That’s what we aim to give our kids. A life full of meaningful adventures. On a constant journey, discovering this beautiful world and its people…

Gypsies at heart, this blog is about our life in Sri Lanka, our travels and new ones to come…
